Dr. Bedelia Flanagan
Paediatric Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine for Children
Chinese Medicine has been caring for children since 200 AD. What makes this medicine exceptional is its recognition of each child's uniqueness, tailoring treatment to their specific needs. My aim is to collaborate with your child's inherent nature, fostering their body's growth, facilitating healing, and empowering them within their own body.
During childhood, growth occurs rapidly, emphasising the importance of providing children's bodies with adequate support and comfort. In my clinic, I frequently assist parents and children with bedwetting, teething, tummy aches, poor appetite, constipation, sleep difficulties, anxiety, asthma, ADHD, hyperactivity, and eczema.
But my child is scared of needles!
My number one priority is to give your child an effective treatment whilst they are comfortable and relaxed. If the thought of needle frightens your child I have plenty of other effective and enjoyable ways to treat your child.
Shonishin, a Japanese non penetrative needling style
Paediatric Medical Massage, based on supporting the children's physiology
Moxibustion, a warm herb used to supplement the child
Cupping, a suction technique to support the lymphatic system
Gold and silver press pelletes, used on acupuncture points to rebalance the system
Chinese Herbal Medicine and supplementation, may be used to support treatment
What does an initial appointment look like
Before our appointment, please fill out an intake form so I can understand your child's medical history and your goals for their care. During the consultation, my priority is to get to know your child and assess their comfort with the treatment. I use gentle diagnostic techniques, such as abdominal palpation, tongue examination, and pulse assessment. From there, I'll provide a gentle treatment. You can relax as I guide the process. After our first session, I’ll develop a treatment plan tailored to your child's health needs, incorporating child-friendly acupuncture and needle-free techniques. If suitable, I may also offer recommendations for at-home care. The frequency of treatment will vary between child and condition we are treating.
